Many states now restrict the amount of wattage that can be consumed in new store construction and remodeling which makes properly illuminating a retail space using less wattage a real challenge. Jewelry stores are a unique type of retail establishment. The amount of light necessary to make diamonds sparkle and gems glow is far more than would be required to illuminate a shirt or sweater. Using inadequate lighting in a jewelry store is a recipe for disaster. However, there are ways that a jewelry store can properly light their space and make their merchandise look fantastic while being “green”.

According to an Online Publishers Association poll of US online video viewers, less than 10% frequently recommend videos to their friends; 29% did so occasionally and a hope-smashing 62% said they rarely or never recommend videos.

Having spent a big portion of my life in the manufacturing business, the actual business of a jewelry retailer always leaves me scratching my head. And for anyone who knows me, there isn’t much left on the head, so I scratch with caution. Why are so many jewelry stores closing? You can play the recession card. But the truth of the matter is stores are teetering on the edge because they simply have no control of their inventory.
