My Computer Is Sluggish; Short of Buying a New Computer, What Can I Do?

fix-ramIn this market, everyone is trying to stretch their dollar as much as possible. One of the most economical things you can do to give your current computer a boost is add more RAM.  Most RAM upgrades are between $35-150 vs. $500-1000+ for a new system. Adding more RAM to your system might give you the added speed you need until you can afford to shell out for a new computer.

On the computer that you’re thinking of adding RAM to, right click on ‘My Computer’ and choose ‘Properties’. In the window that opens, the ‘General’ tab will state how much RAM your computer currently has and will give you the info you need to shop for additional RAM. Sites like www.crucial.com or www.kingsington.com will help you determine the type and maximum amount of RAM your computer can use and even give an idea of the added performance you can expect.  These sites also provide install guides for many models. It still might be a bit daunting but it’s not as complicated as say changing the transmission in your car but your computer might act as if you had.
